Benefits Beyond Physical Fitness

Outdoor recreation plays a crucial role in the development of young people, fostering not only physical health but also cognitive growth. Studies show that children who engage in active play demonstrate a higher willingness to learn, greater problem-solving skills, and enhanced creativity. Exposure to outdoor activities builds resilience, improves focus, and nurtures a lifelong curiosity—key factors in academic and personal success.

Bringing students to North Shore Bike Park provides a wide array of benefits that extend well beyond physical fitness. While activities like cycling, scootering, skateboarding and inline skating naturally promote strength and coordination, they also offer lesser-known, yet equally significant, advantages for children’s overall development:

  1. Mental Health |  It’s well known that these activities reduce stress, boosts mood, and improves focus, promoting emotional well-being.

  2. Cardiovascular Development | Cycling and skating enhance endurance and heart health, helping students build a strong cardiovascular foundation.

  3. Cognitive and Problem-Solving Skills | Tackling the park’s obstacles  sharpens decision-making, spatial awareness, and cognitive flexibility.

  4. Social Awareness and Inclusivity | The park fosters teamwork, cooperation, and inclusivity, teaching empathy, respect, and community belonging.

  5. Resilience and Risk Management | Students learn controlled risk-taking, building confidence, resilience, and adaptability through safe exploration.

This comprehensive approach to physical activity promotes mental, social, and cognitive development, making North Shore Bike Park an excellent venue for educational field trips that go beyond the traditional classroom setting.

The Fine Print

  • A minimum of 20 riders is required to take advantage of this promotion. There is a maximum of 300.  Rental helmets, bikes and scooters are limited in quantity.

  • The field trip must begin between the hours of 9AM and 3PM on school days.  Note that the park is open to the public during the trip so avoiding PD days of other schools or districts is advisable.

  • All riders, chaperones, teachers and anyone entering the terrain floor must have a signed waiver. For expediency checking everyone in a paper waiver is required even if they have visited the park previously.

  • Skateboarding is allowed but would be limited to a dedicated piece of terrain due to insurance limitations.

  • Riders 7 and under must have an attendant with them at all times.

  • It is recommended that a large group maintain a 10:1 ratio of students to chaperones for everyone’s safety.

The WAIVER

All participants must have a signed waiver, signed by a guardian aged 19 or older. This can be done online or via a printed form. Without a waiver the rider is not eligible to ride in the park or enter the terrain area. A PDF of our waiver will be provided to you well before your visit to distribute to parents.

First Aid We always have a first aid certified attendant on site, and a first aid station is available in the park office next to reception.
